Palliative Care Physiotherapy Gymnasium

I have been volunteering at Calvary since 2008 assisting both in the hospital and community.

In the hospital, I work with the physiotherapy team in the Palliative care gym where staff assist each patient in their challenge to maintain or improve their mobility. There are days when it would be so easy for the patients to stay in their room, but their determination to make the effort to attend the gym and exercise is heart-warming and inspiring. For some the exercise is most important, for others it's a chance to experience a different scene and enjoy the company of others and the musicsometimes serene and sometimes jolly, depending on the needs of the patients at the time.

A warm smile and a good ear is often all that is required from the volunteer. The rewards one receives from participation in the palliative care gym program are amazing.
