I love to see the smiles on their faces as we engage with them, creating moments of laughter and fun.

I started as a volunteer in 2015, assisting in the Mary Potter House day dementia centre at Calvary Hospital Kogarah.

From the moment our clients arrive either by our Calvary bus or driven in by their carers, we are there to greet them at the gate and ready to enjoy this special time with them.

It is such a great pleasure to interact with them all, listening to their life stories, watching them tap their feet and sing along to the music and the enjoyment of participating in some creative activities, attending to their veggie patch and of course sharing lunch together. I love to see the smiles on their faces as we engage with them, creating moments of laughter and fun.

The knowledge I have experienced in volunteering is something I will treasure forever.

I understand they probably will not remember  me the moment they leave......but that is not important....what matters is the care I give them and the love on their faces showing the gratitude from the moment they arrive and till they return home.

I love attending and would recommend it to anyone wishing to become a volunteer as it is very rewarding.

I have made some wonderful ‘friends’ and the team at Mary Potter House are the best ever....
