Calvary volunteer in the Rehabilitation ward
Being a volunteer would have to be one of the most rewarding ways to spend your time. Just a few hours a week can make a big difference to someone else's well-being. My role as a volunteer at Calvary began about 2 years ago when I was assigned to the Recreational Activities Officer in Rehab. This suited me perfectly as I was able to indulge in my passion for creative craft. We have a lot of fun with the patients making jewellery, cards and other paper crafts. I also help with the lunch group and afternoon tea parties which are always popular with the patients.
Another aspect of my volunteer role is the opportunity to spend a little time just having a nice chat with a patient. Most people love to talk about their lives and what they have achieved over the years. It’s lovely to find out that you may have a shared interest with someone else.
I have met many interesting and wonderful people during my time as a Calvary volunteer and hope to continue in this role in the future.
